ALYoF April Finishes party....

My Lovely Year of Finishes April goal is finally a table runner...
no longer a UFO...
Cinnamon & Cocoa is a Bunny Hill Designs pattern from 2009.

I love how it turned out...now to finish the quilt that goes with it. 

It's called Rabbits Prefer Embroidery, also designed by Anne Sutton.

 I have the embroidery blocks finished...

probably finished them about 5 years ago...a red set of blocks

and a brown set that I forgot I had finished stitching.

The other goal for Aprils ALYoF was to get the blocks cut for one of two batik quilts that are on my 'to do' list...look...one top is finished. 

The pattern was in the February 2009 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting magazine.  

...hopefully I will have it quilted this week and I can stitch the binding when we go to Canada next Friday.

called Cinnamon and Cocoa.

It's perfect for Easter and

I'm hoping it will be finished tomorrow...

I quilted it yesterday and now it just needs the binding.

It is the one on the left...I've had it traced and ready to stitch
for 2 years....I'm working on a dead line so I'm hoping
to get another UFO finished.

A must have quilting book...

...called Sunday Morning Quilts.   It is a new book by Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison.   I was thrilled when asked if I would test one of the patterns...thank you Mama Spark for suggesting me as a pattern tester to Amanda Jean. The pattern I tested was Up Up and Away and it is one of 16 Modern Scrap Projects found in Sunday Morning Quilts. The fabric I used was Lily and Will II by Bunny Hill Designs and Moda Ivory for the background.  It has 589 little triangles....

Up Up and Away

Last summer I was testing a pattern for Amanda Jean at Crazymomquilts.  When you are testing a pattern it is all hush hush until the pattern or book is released.  Well...I had completely forgotten about the quilt and had still not even finished it.....I do have a zillion UFO's...many stored in pizza boxes.  My DS bought me 2 crates of pizza boxes....a few years ago to kinda organize my UFO's. 

Well, Wednesday night I went to shut down the PC before bed and noticed an email from Amanda Jean.  She would like to blog about her pattern testers on her 'Sunday Morning Scrap' posting....this Sunday.  I'm in panic mode, not sure where to even find the quilt.  I knew the rows were made, but not all the rows were sewn together.

Thursday morning I found the quilt rows wrapped in a flannel table cloth that I use as my design wall. I had a busy day on Thursday and just had time to repress the rows and arrange the ones that I still had to sew together.  The rows are stitched on point and there were a lot of intersections that had to be pinned.  These are 2" squares. I had a quilt meeting Thursday night....and got home after 9.  It was 95F on Thursday and felt like 100F....and there was no air conditioning in the church.  To say the least I was whipped when I got home!!!!  I decide to send Amanda Jean an email to see if we could have another week or so to get pictures to her....she got back to me and she was going to think about it but would probably go with what the testers sent her and go ahead with the post this Sunday....in 4 days......I had to get my act together fast and get something worthwhile sent to Amanda Jean. I pinned, stitched and pressed 2 inch squares on Friday and finished the quilt top Friday evening.  I loaded it onto the long arm, picked my pattern and thread so I could start quilting it first thing Saturday morning.  I'm still pretty slow with the long arm but I managed to finish the quilt at 12:03 pm.  I trimmed it and decided I wanted to do a 2 colored binding, a little more time consuming and added pressure, but I wanted the back of the quilt plain.  I finished hand stitching the binding down about 8 o'clock....thank goodness it was still light outside for a few pictures to send to Amanda Jean.

I think I worked pretty good under pressure.  Thank you Amanda Jean for trusting me as a pattern tester and for getting me to finish one of my UFO's.  I luv it...it's my 'calming quilt'...all my worries are Up Up and Away.

A little late but I wanted to share a few surprises....

few weeks ago...

I survived another one....

...a birthday that is.

I had a perfect birthday...

DH had a 4 day weekend and we headed to Canada.

I got hugs and spent time with my grandones...

...on Saturday we got to see our DGS skate and play a little hockey for the first time...

...got to see my DGD practice her dances for upcoming competitions...

 we had a delicious prime rib dinner complete with yorkshire pudding

mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots

prepared by my DSon2...he even made the gravy from scratch.

 Dson1 and DDIL joined us, we had a lovely visit and a delicious dinner.

On Sunday, my DSister and DBIL hosted a delicious Easter dinner...

got to spend some time with my DMom and DBrother

my Dniece and her Dhusband...

It was a beautiful Birthday weekend!!

DH always gets me roses for my birthday but this year

he told me he chose to forgo the roses because we would be away for the 4 days.  

Good idea...

Well to my surprise...

a week later he stopped to buy these beauties on his way home from the office...

...totally not expecting roses!!

...he is the sweetest!!!

Blogger aches and pains....

I am still having issues with Blogger and am wondering if anyone else is having problems

.....and this has been going on for about 3 weeks.

  I can leave comments on some blogs

but I have come across a number of blogs that I have been following for some time

and I cannot leave comments on them....I get a blank screen. 

 I also get a blank screen when I try to view the comments on my own blog. 

If anyone has any answers and can help please let me know.

Last night was FNSI and I was stitching. 

I was working on a table runner....

It is a older Bunny Hill Designs pattern called Cinnamon & Cocoa. 

 Yes it is a UFO and thought it would be a great Easter table runner.

 

I have the borders to do yet....

...a narrow inner red border and a white outer border. 

I may get them on later today after I do some laundry and cleaning!!!

 I'd rather be sewing but the cleaning just can't wait any longer.

I have not forgotten about my giveaway for my 500+ wonderful followers.....

...hoping I can find a solution to viewing my comments on my blog soon. 

 I do receive comments on my email

but it would be so much easier if I could pick a winner using my numbered comments.

Blocks for Jeaneane....

This past summer a tornado hit Joplin MO with a vengeance. 

I read a posting at Bunny Hill Designs 

where Anne Sutton asked
fellow quilters if they would help make blocks for Jeaneane. 

I could not imagine if this had happened to me. 

I knew I was going to help in some way
but it was a very busy time for me so...

...I sent a small package to Anne for Jeaneane...

no blocks but a charm pack of Kansas Troubles...

...so Jeaneane could start to build a new fabric stash. 

This past Sunday I spent the day with my friend Christa...

...we were going to have a sew day....something we haven't done in a long time.

she brought lots she could have worked on,

but instead we made blocks and more blocks

...blocks for Jeaneane.

We shopped in the morning,

 came home for lunch

 and sewed on blocks all afternoon,

had dinner and Christa left about 8 o’clock

....she said she had a ‘great day’ when she left.

  I had a great day too.  She is a great friend.

This is what we made on Sunday.

Monday night Christa came over again, I ordered pizza and
we made 4 more blocks and made plans to make more...

another first

....it was 2 months ago I experienced my first Quilt Market....

in two words I'd describe it as overwhelming and exhausting...
and looking forward to the next one!!!!

I met many amazing fabric and pattern designers, to name a few

Edyta Sitar.....the talented fabric and pattern designer of 'Laundry Basket Quilts'

She is a real sweetheart and soooooo funny.

I would love to take one of her classes.......her work is truly amazing.
If you love batiks you will love her quilts.....they are stunning!!

....for me the highlight of going to Quilt Market

was meeting Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs.

Prior to Spring Market I had the opportunity to help stitch quilts

that were hanging in the Bunny Hill Designs booth.....

.....'All Dressed Up' is pictured in 2 color ways....a pink version and a gray one
using Anne's new line of fabric 'Puttin on the Ritz' and it is gorgeous.
It will be in your LQS in October and available in pink, blue and gray.

I stitched the 12 embroidered blocks...6 blocks for each quilt...
and pieced the pink quilt..... minus the borders.
Mama Spark pieced the gray quilt.....also minus the borders.

Anne wasn't quite sure what fabrics she wanted to use for the borders.

In yesterdays post I showed 2 of the embroidered blocks

Any little girl would love this quilt!!

Another quilt I worked on with Mama Spark was called 'Happy Go Lucky'
and it too was made using Anne's 'Puttin on the Ritz' fabric.
It was hanging the Moda booth.
Oh my goodness....pinch me again!! 

Mama Spark pieced the pinwheel rows and
I stitched the applique block, attached the pinwheel rows
and added the borders.

This is another sweet pattern and would be adorable in the blue.
